Medical Transcription: Fundamentals and Practice by Health Professions Inst, For courses in Medical Transcription, Medical Assisting, Medical Office Procedures, and Legal Transcription/Court Reporting. Providing basic medical transcription training for students with no prior experience, this groundbreaking introductory text offers a unique combination of authentic physician dictation by body systems, coordinated readings and exercises by medical specialty, and supplementary information vital to every medical transcription student. Offering a distinct learning advantage over programs using professional readers as dictators, it teaches students to transcribe actual medical dictation complete with variables in dictation style and punctuation as well as genuine distractions such as hospital noises and background voices. Grouped by medical specialty, each dictation report offers the best example of its type for vocabulary density, technical content, and other instructional criteria, and includes chart notes, letters, initial office valuations, consultations, history and physical examinations, discharge summaries, operative reports, emergency department reports, procedure notes, and diagnostic studies from each medical specialty. Students gain real-life transcription experience and understanding, and achieve the skill and competency they will need to obtain an entry-level position as a medical transcriptionist in a physician's office or medical group practice, a medical clinic, or a specialty department in a medical center.
The Childes Project: Tools for Analyzing Talk: Transcription Format and Programs with Book by Brian Macwhinney, This third edition -- expanded to two volumes -- describes three basic tools for language analysis of transcript data by computer that have been developed in the context of the Child Language Data Exchange System (CHILDES) project. These are: the CHAT transcription and coding format, the CLAN package of analysis programs, and the CHILDES database. These tools have brought about significant changes in the way research is conducted in the child language field. They are used with great success by researchers working with second language learning, adult conversational interactions, sociological content analyses, and language recovery in aphasia, as well as by students of child language development. The tools are widely applicable, although this book concentrates on their use in the child language field, under the assumption that researchers from other areas can make the necessary analogies to their own topics. This thoroughly revised third edition includes documentation on a dozen new computer programs that have been added to the basic system for transcript analysis. The most important of these new programs is the CHILDES Text Editor (CED) which can be used for a wide variety of purposes, including editing non-Roman orthographies, systematically adding codes to transcripts, checking the files for correct use of CHAT, and linking the files to digitized audio and videotape. In addition to information on the new computer programs, the manual documents changed the shape of the CHILDES/BIB system -- given a major update in 1994 -- which now uses a new computer database system. The documentation for the CHILDES transcript database has been updated to include new information on old corpora andinformation on more than a dozen new corpora from many different languages. Finally, the system of CHAT notations for file transcript have been clarified to emphasize the ways in which the codes are used by particular CLAN programs.
Braille music - Braille music code allows music to be notated using braille cells so that music can be read by visually impaired musicians. The Braille music system was originally developed by Louis Braille. Braille ASCII - Braille ASCII (or more formally The North American Braille ASCII Code) is a subset of the ASCII character set which uses 64 of the printable ASCII characters to represent all possible dot combinations in six-dot Braille. It was developed around 1969 and, in spite of originally being known as North American Braille ASCII, it is now used internationally. Braille terminal - A braille terminal is a computer input device that follows the braille system of writing for the blind. With a pure braille terminal, input is performed by two sets of three keys plus a space bar (as in the Perkins Brailler), while output is via a refreshable braille display consisting of a row of electromechanical character cells, each of which can raise or lower a combination of six round-tipped pins. Braille translator - A Braille Translator is a piece of software that allows a printed document to be translated in to Braille and sent to a Braille Embosser which produces a hardcopy Braille version of the original document.
